It served as a capital for twelve dynasties, including the Western Zhou, Qin, Western Han, Sui and Tang dynasties, spanning over 1120 years. It became the oriental cultural center of the Silk Road. Shanghai

Beijing - Xian - Shanghai
Beijing:
Tiananmen Square: In Chinese, “Tian” means heaven, “An” means peace, and “Men” means gate. So Tiananmen means the Gate of Heavenly Peace. It is located in the center of Beijing city. Here you can visit Tiananmen Tower, Monument to the People's Heroes, and Great Hall of the People, Mao Zedong Memorial Hall and see the national flag raising ceremony. It is the must place to visit in Beijing City.
Forbidden City: The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the mid-Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. It is located at the north of Tiananmen Square, and now known as the Palace Museum. The palace complex was been built in 1406 during the Ming dynasty. It was completed fourteen years later in 1420. It is known as the world's largest palace complex and covers 74 hectares. This great palace is surrounded by a six meter deep moat and a ten meter high wall.
Temple of Heaven: Temple of Heaven was built in 1420 AD during the Ming Dynasty. It was built to offer sacrifice to Heaven. It has a total area of about 2,700,000 square meters which is much bigger than the Forbidden City. As Chinese emperors called themselves 'The Son of Heaven’, they dared not to build their own dwelling,’ Forbidden City' bigger than a dwelling for Heaven.
Beijing Hutong: Hutong means lanes or alleys, in fact the passage formed by lines of siheyuan -- a compound with houses around a courtyard where old Beijing residents live in. The word "hutong" originates from the word "hottog" which means "well" in Mongolian. Villagers dig out a well and inhabited there. Hutong is one of the unique special features in Beijing. There are thousands of Hutong here surrounded the Forbidden City, most of which were came into being in the dynasties Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasty. It has become the “must see” place in Beijing.
Great Wall: The Great Wall was originally built in the Spring, Autumn, and Warring States Periods as a defensive fortification by the three states: Yan, Zhao and Qin. Till the Qin dynasty, after Emperor Qin Shihuang unified China, he gave his order to have the walls joined together to fend off the invasions from the Huns in the north. Since then, the Great Wall has served as a monument of the Chinese nation throughout history.
Summer Palace: The summer palace was firstly constructed in the Jin Dynasty (1115-1234), it was then extended continuously. By the time of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), it had become a luxurious royal garden providing royal families with rest and entertainment. The garden survived and was rebuilt in 1886 and 1902. In 1888, it was given the current name-Yihe Yuan. It served as a summer resort for Empress Dowager Cixi. The Summer Palace is composed mainly of Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake. It occupies an area of 294 hectares, three quarters of which is water. Guided by nature, artists designed the gardens exquisitely so that visitors would see marvelous views and be amazed by perfect examples of refined craftwork using the finest materials.
Xian:
Terra-cotta Warriors & Horses Museum: The world famous Terra-cotta Warriors & Horses was firstly found in 1974 when several peasants were digging a well. It has become one of the eight wonders in the world. This museum includes three pits. Pit one is the biggest pit, it has an area of 14,000 square meters. Altogether, the museum covers an area of 190,000 square meters. Pit 1 contained chariots and ranks of six thousand soldiers. Pit 2 held fourteen hundred figures of cavalrymen, horses and infantrymen, along with ninety wooden chariots. Pit 3 contained about seventy figures.
Big Wild Goose Pagoda: The Big Wild Goose Pagoda was originally built in 589 A.D. in the Sui dynasty; it was finished in 652 A.D. Now it’s situated inside the Da ci en temple. Originally, it has five stories, and then was extended to ten stories. However, because of the winds and war, the pagoda was destroyed and after all, it was built into the 7-story pagoda, 64-meter-high structure today.
Yangtze River: The Yangtze River, named Changjing in Chinese. Chang means long and Jiang means river. It has over 6,300 kilometers long, is the largest and longest river in China, and the third-longest in the world, next only to the Nile in northeast Africa and the Amazon in South America. The river flows from west to east through provinces of Qinghai, Tibet, Sichuan, Yunnan, Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui and Jiangsu as well as the city of Shanghai, finally emptying into the East China Sea. With plenty of rainfall all year round, the Yangtze River is named the golden watercourse. The most impressive section of the river is the three Yangtze River gorges: Qutang Gorge, Wuxia Gorge and Xiling Gorge.
Shanghai
Huangpu River: Huangpu River used to be one branch of the Suzhou River. However, it has become the largest river and the most important shipping artery of Shanghai, and Suzhou River became its branch. Huangpu River wriggles like an undulating muddy dragon from the mouth of the Yangtze River in Wusong to the East China Sea. The yellow and ice-free Huangpu River is 114 kilometers long, 400 meters wide and has an average depth of 9 meters.
The Bund: The Bund is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Shanghai. It is also called the Zhongshan Road, is a famous waterfront and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years. It starts from the Baidu Bridge, which is at the connecting point of the Huangpu River, to the East Jinling Road and winds a 1500 meters length. Walking along the Bund , the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Jin Mao Tower can be easily seen on the opposite side. Being one of the Top Ten Shanghai Attractions, the Bund is a really beautiful and special place which is worth visiting.
Nanjing Road: Nanjing Road is Shanghai's main shopping street, famously named one of the World's Seven Great Roads in the 1930s and now making a rapid comeback after decades of Maoist austerity. The road starts at the Bund in the east and ends in the west at the junction of Jingan Temple and Yan'an West Street. Today Nanjing Road is a must-see metropolitan destination attracting thousands of fashion-seeking shoppers from all over the world.
Shanghai Museum: Shanghai Museum is located in the center of Shanghai in People's Square. It was established in December, 1952. The museum is divided into twelve galleries and three exhibition halls. With a collection of over 120,000 pieces of cultural relics in twelve categories, Shanghai Museum is especially famous for its treasures of bronzes, ceramics and paintings and calligraphy.
